چکیده

In non-cooperative scenarios, the estimation of direct sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) signals has to be done in a blind manner. In this letter, we consider the spreading sequence estimation problem for DS-SS signals. First, the maximum likelihood estimate (MLE) of spreading sequence is derived, then a semidefinite relaxation (SDR) approach is proposed to cope with the exponential complexity of performing MLE. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach provides significant performance improvements compared to existing methods, especially in the case of low numbers of data samples and low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) situations. key words: direct sequence spread spectrum signal, semidefinite relaxation, maximum likelihood estimate, spreading sequence estimation

Detection & Estimation of Covert Ds/ss Signals Using Higher Order Statistical Processing

Conventional linear and non-linear receivers are generally ineffective in detecting direct-sequence spread spectrum (DS/SS) signals if the spreading sequences are unavailable. An investigation into using correlation-based processing is reported showing that the cyclostationary property of DS/SS provides detection capability. Finally we describe with results an emerging technique based on higher...

Estimation of the Spreading Waveform of a Spread Spectrum Transmission

Spread spectrum signals have been used for secure communications for several decades [4]. Nowadays, they are also widely used outside the military domain, especially in Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems [2]. Due to their low probability of interception, these signals increase the difficulty of spectrum surveillance. Direct-Sequence Spread Spectrum transmitters (DS-SS) use a periodica...

Throughput Improvement of STS-Based MC DS-CDMA System with Variable Spreading Factor

The throughput enhancement of Space-Time Spreading (STS)-based Multicarrier Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (MC DS-CDMA) system is investigated in this paper. Variable Spreading Factor (VSF) is utilized to improve the data throughput of the system. In this contribution, an analytical approach is proposed to compute a new expression for the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of t...

Coding vs. Spreading for Narrow-Band Interference Suppression

The use of active narrow-band interference (NBI) suppression in direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DS-SS) communications has been extensively studied. In this paper, we address the problem of optimum coding-spreading tradeoff for NBI suppression. With maximum likelihood decoding, we first derive upper bounds on the error probability of coded systems in the presence of a special class of NBI, name...

A semidefinite relaxation scheme for quadratically constrained

Semidefinite optimization relaxations are among the widely used approaches to find global optimal or approximate solutions for many nonconvex problems. Here, we consider a specific quadratically constrained quadratic problem with an additional linear constraint. We prove that under certain conditions the semidefinite relaxation approach enables us to find a global optimal solution of the unde...
